Trial runs completed

NASHIK: The city bus service to be launched by Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been completed. The service will be launched by leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis on July 8. During the trial runs, the NMC administration checked technical glitches. About two and a half thousand Nashikites enjoyed the service during the trial runs.

Nashik Municipal Corporation is starting the city bus service to increase its revenue. After a long wait, the city bus service will be launched on July 8. In the first phase, about 50 buses will run on various routes in the city. Nashikites are eagerly waiting for the start of the service. The buses will run on Nashik to Nashik Road, Panchavati and other routes.

It is learned that about two and a half thousand Nashik residents travelled for free in two days. The highest number of 800 passengers travelled from Nashik Road bus stand. The trial runs have revealed that the bus service from Nashik Road to Nashik is the most beneficial in terms of revenue. Earlier, NMC has fixed ticket fares for its maiden city bus service.

The Corporation will charge a fixed fare every two kilometres. After the first two km, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 km stages have been made. A facility of the monthly pass has also been introduced. During the trial runs, nine buses were released daily from Tapovan and Nashik Road main depots. Eight hundred Nashikites took advantage of the bus service on the first day and 1500 on the second day. All the passengers were being given tickets but no money was taken.

Although NMC has planned to run 250 buses, 50 buses will be run in the first phase. Bus routes have been fixed. After 50 buses start running on the roads, the number of buses will be gradually increased.

The bus service would be started on Tapovan via Bardan Phata, district civil hospital, Satpur, Ashoknagar, Shramiknagar; Tapovan via Symbiosis college Pavannagar, Uttamnagar; Tapovan to Pathardi village via Dwarka, Nagji hospital, Indiranagar, Vanvaibhav; Shivaji Chowk, Lekha Nagar, Mhasrul, Borgad via Symbiosis college; Tapovan to Bhagur via Shalimar, Dwarka, Bytco, Deolali Camp; Nashik Road via Bardan Phata, Dwarka, College Road, Satpur VIP Carbon Naka via Bardan Phata; Nashik Road to Ambad via Dwarka, Lekhanagar and Garware point; Nashik Road via Nimani route, Jail Road, Sailani Baba, Nandurgaon, Nandur Naka, Tapovan and Nashik Road via Tapoval route Bytco, Dwarka, Shalimar, CBS and Panchavati.

There will be a total of 240 bus halts on these nine routes. There is also a plan to start connecting bus service to Ojhar airport, Trimbakeshwar and Kasara local trains. It is also under consideration to prepare routes for Nashik darshan, Sula wines and boat club. It is also under consideration to construct a shopping mall in the campus of Tapovan and Nashik Road depot campus to increase the revenue of the Corporation.
