Tourists throng Harihar fort on the weekend

NASHIK: Tourists in large numbers thronged Harihar fort on weekends. It is being found that though district administration is taking proper precautions, the citizens seem to have shirked their responsibilities. The restrictions in the district were relaxed as Covid cases were lowered. The district was unlocked on certain condition. While unlocking the district administration had stated that citizens should follow all Covid-19 norms keeping in mind that Covid-19 is not over yet.

However, it was seen that Nashikites thronged Harihar fort in large numbers on Sunday, flouting all the Covid-19 related norms. A video of this has gone viral on social media. Mountaineers and tourists, including youth, were among those who visited the Harihar fort. There is a risk of accidents as the youth do not take safety precautions while climbing this fort. Last year, a tourist from Mumbai died after falling from the fort.

Though Covid-19 cases are under control, it is still there. Everyone should take care, the district administration stated. However, after unlock, people in large numbers are gathering at the fort to enjoy the natural beauty of the place. As there is a possibility of an accident due to a lack of safety measures, there is a risk of an accident.

The risk of injury is higher as the steps at Harihar fort are covered with moss during the rainy season. Considering the people’s rush, the locals are asking the administration to take immediate action.

“Tourists should be banned from visiting the tourist places in the district. Police should be deployed at important places. Action should be taken against those citizens who step out of their homes without any reason or found at tourist places.” – Adv Ajinkya Gite
