Ring road to reduce traffic congestion proposed

NASHIK: Industrial development of the city is taking place at a rapid pace. However, the width of internal and by-pass roads in the city has not changed much. As a result, frequent traffic jams are still a major concern for Nashikites. To achieve balanced development of the city and considering the problem of traffic congestion in the future, it is very important to have a ring road within the city.

On this backdrop, MP Hemant Godse has suggested a Ring Road in the city to reduce traffic congestion. He said that the municipal corporation (NMC) should pass a resolution in this regard and send it to State Government for approval as a special matter. MP Godse held an important meeting with Municipal Commissioner Kailas Jadhav wherein he made such a unique suggestion.

Nashik has been growing rapidly over the past decade. As the city is famous all over the country as a religious place, the number of devotees flocking to the city from outside the state is very large. Due to the influx of devotees and the rapid growth of urbanisation, the traffic in the city is under great strain. As the number of vehicles is also increasing, so is the issue of traffic jams. This is causing a great deal of confusion among the citizens as well as the devotees. Due to this, accidents are constantly affecting motorists and many of them are getting permanent disability.

The meeting held between MP Godse and Municipal Commissioner Jadhav focused on how to overcome the problem of future traffic congestion.

“As Simhastha Kumbh Mela will be held in Nashik in the next five years, the influx of sadhu and mahants from across the country will increase in the city after three years. Due to this, special measures need to be taken now to avoid future traffic jams in the city,” said MP Godse in his discussion with Municipal Commissioner Jadhav.

At the same time, MP Godse has given a letter to the Municipal Commissioner instructing the corporation to approve the proposal of a Ring Road and send the same to the state government for approval.

“MP Godse’s demand is justified. Ring road is essential for a permanent solution to the problem of traffic congestion in Nashik city. A meeting will soon be convened between the Town Planning and Construction Department to take a final decision in this regard.”- Municipal Commissioner Kailas Jadhav
