Pune is rising medical hub: Sharad Pawar

Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar today (Saturday) said Pune is rising as a medical hub. He was for the inauguration ceremony of Sahyadri Hospital for Special Surgeries at Senapati Bapat Road.

Addressing the gathering, Pawar said Pune was the capital of the country during the Peshwa era, then Pune had a contribution to the freedom movement, later Pune became an educational hub.

Yashwantrao Chavan contributed to making the city an industrial hub and now the city is rising as a medical hub, said Pawar. After the inauguration of the hospital, Dr. Ketan Vartak, Dr. Snehal Desai, Dr. Nagesh Rao, Dr. Parag Modak, Dr. Umakant Galande, Counselor Shekhar Mane were felicitated for their work during the Covid pandemic.

Sharing about the facilities at the hospital, Dr Narendra Vaidya said the hospital is well-equipped for emergency care with operation theatre and other modern facilities to treat serious patients.

During his interaction, Sharad Pawar shared an incident that made the city IT hub. He said, “I was invited for Bhumi Pujan of a sugar mill in Hinjewadi. When I saw the area I suggested having an IT park instead. During the Pooja I said, though I am performing Bhumi Pujan for Sugar mill, the mill will be away from this space and IT companies will be built. Now the Pune has become IT hub."
