Of the total target of Rs 150 crore given for NMC tax department for the financial year 2019-20, it has made recovery of Rs 138.30 crore till Wednesday (Mar 11). As 20 days are left, the target can be achieved. This time, record break property tax recovery will be made for the first time after the last many years.
The then Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Munde had applied new property tax rates to the properties before March 31, 2018 and had applied new rates to those properties which constructed after April 1, 2018. Due to this, the then Municipal Commissioner had given target to recover property tax of Rs 358 crore for the financial year 2019-20. Considering anger among citizens against the decision by Mundhe, current Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishna Game decided to apply old rates to the properties before March 31, 2018 and decided to conduct a valuation of new 70,000-89,000 new properties.
After these happenings, the Municipal Commissioner had given the tax department a target of Rs 150 crore in the current financial year.
Accordingly, the department sent notices to tax defaulters and conducted an auction process of properties of those defaulters who did not respond to the notices. It also conducted an amnesty scheme in two phases. In this way, the department made tax recovery above Rs 20 crore. Recovery of only Rs 12 crore is pending to achieve the target. Due to this, there is a possibility that additional recovery can be made in 20 days that are left.
A total of Rs 14.37 crore has been recovered from Satpur division, while Rs 24.59 crore has been recovered from Panchavati division and recovery of Rs 29.14 crore has been made from New Nashik division. From Nashik Road division, Rs 23.78 crore has been recovered, whereas recovery of Rs 24.95 crore has been made from Nashik west division and Rs 21.44 crore has been recovered from Nashik east division.
