Trial run at Ravivar Karanja

NASHIK: Trials are underway to widen the traffic island as well as to lay dividers in order to ensure smooth and disciplined traffic in the heart of the city at Ravivar Karanja and Nimani Chowk areas. However, due to the sudden start of the trial, citizens and traders are facing traffic congestion problems. Business firms, traders as well as citizens have expressed their feelings on Deshdoot’s Facebook page, appealing to the civic administration to complete work of the proposed parking lots before going for a junction or traffic island.

Meanwhile, the civic body plans to develop three traffic islands each at Nimani, RK, and Shalimar Chowk. The trial is currently being conducted on an experimental basis at Karanja and Nimani Chowk till December 19. The trial is intended to plan for future traffic improvements, citizen reactions, and advice from smart city experts.

"We will not allow any work to be done at RK until and unless the administration takes us into confidence. The RK area is in dire need of parking. Therefore, multi-storeyed parking should be done first and then the traders should be convinced about this development work." - Praful Sancheti, Working President, Nashik Vyapari Mahasangh

"RK is the central marketplace. A parking facility should be provided here. For this, the proposed car park at Yashwant Mandai should be constructed on priority and then the junction." - Narendra Pawar, trader

"Currently, the traffic is getting jammed due to the sacks kept for the trial run. The main problem of the Ravivar Karanja is traffic. To solve this, priority should be given to parking at Yashwant Mandai." - Sanket Pawar, social activist

"Why do you make the traffic island at RK? The signal system on Hirawadi road is not working. These things need to be considered." - Rishikesh Kshemkalyani

"Everywhere in the city, whether the circle or the traffic island is small or big, there is a need for traffic police at every circle to reduce traffic jam. - Prabha Wagh, citizen There’s not enough parking space in the whole city but the towing program is going on extensively." - Latif Pathan, citizen
