NASHIK: The cyber police have arrested one for cheating people for Rs 2.72 lakh on the pretext of providing a scholarship from foreign countries to their children. Thirty-eight mobiles, three laptops, two tabs and 11 pen drives were seized from him. The suspect has been identified as Nilesh Clifford Fernandes (45, resident of Malad West, Mumbai).

According to a detailed news report, the suspect started a call centre in the name of L L P company and contacted the parents. He lured them that the syllabus of school students was prepared in simple language and it will be provided through pen drive or CD. He also stated that the fee for this was Rs 12,000 and students would get a scholarship in a lottery method if they take this facility.

Many parents then gave money. The parents from Nashik also sent money to the company since January 2020. The suspect took Rs 2.72 lakh from the parents by stating that the student got a scholarship of Rs 3.82 lakh. After noting that they were cheated, parents complained to cyber police. Accordingly, a team of police inspector of cyber police station Devraj Borse, police sub-inspector Danish Mansuri, Kiran Jadhav and others acted against a call centre in Thane district and detained Fernandes.

During the investigation, it came to light that the suspect cheated many parents for lakhs of rupees. When police produced the suspect before the court, he has been remanded to police custody till June 14. Those citizens who are cheated by the suspect should register a complaint with cyber police, urged police inspector Borse.
