NMC to distribute Bael saplings on Shivratri

There are many trees known for their flowers, fruits but only a few are known for their leaves. One of them is the Indian Bael tree. In Indian culture, the whole tree is very important. Bael leaves are used in worship for every auspicious occasion.

Since the species of this celestial tree is on extinction, as an effort to save the tree then, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will distribute the Indian Bael tree saplings on the day of Mahashivratri. The official from NMC’s garden department has said, “Because of the useful properties of Bael fruit, it has gained extraordinary importance in Ayurveda.

The fruit is high in nutritional value and has a good source of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, fats too. The Bael fruit pulp contains steroids, coumarins, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, lignin, insulin, and other antioxidants that can protect you from diseases. In addition, it contains proteins, carbohydrates, minerals. To save such important medicinal tree the move has been taken by the Corporation.”

He informed that the Bael Festival will be organized this year through Nashik Municipal Corporation for plantation of the sapling of Bael throughout Nashik. During this festival, Bael seedlings will be distributed on February 21st, 2020 by all the departments of Nashik Municipal Corporation.

Nevertheless, all citizens should adopt seedlings to improve the environment of the city. For this purpose, the garden department will make available seedlings to the citizens. Citizens as well as social and environmental organizations, tree lovers are urged to make the festival a success by participating in the festival.
