NMC in need of staff

NASHIK: As the officers and employees of various cadres on the establishment appendix of the corporation are retiring according to the prescribed age, the number of officers and employees is decreasing day by day. Therefore, in a letter sent to Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Mayor Satish Kulkarni has demanded that the employees on the municipal appendix should be recruited.

Most of the officers have four to five departments, so the work stress on the officers and staff is increasing. Due to insufficient manpower, many officers and employees are facing various ailments. Half of the employees have also committed suicide due to work stress.

With the growing population of the city, the scope of work of the corporation is increasing. This means that there is a need for officers and employees, but as the officers and employees are retiring every month according to the prescribed age and no post has been recruited in the corporation for the last 24 years, there is a regular increase in the civic service facilities.

Today, the establishment cost is 37 to 38 percent. Establishment cost has increased due to the implementation of the 7th pay commission for contract workers (including salaries of contract workers). Due to the lack of official staff, it is becoming difficult to provide continuous and prompt service facilities to the citizens. At the same time, it is becoming very difficult to provide basic facilities due to lack of officers and staff.

Also, due to limitations in collection of water tax and property tax, the given target cannot be met at full capacity. As a result, lease arrears have gone up to Rs.500 crore. The first duty of the corporation is to provide civic services. Considering the growing population of the city, the growing scope of work, and the current inadequate officer-staff class, as well as the B class status that the Nashik Municipal Corporation has received for many years, the number of officers and staff in the Nashik Municipal Corporation needs to increase.

It is, therefore, requested that, as a matter of urgency, the establishment expenditure limit be relaxed, and immediate approval be given for the recruitment of vacancies in various departments from cleaners to engineers.
