NMC election decision after winter session

NASHIK: Nashik Municipal Corporation administration has prepared a rough plan of 44 wards for upcoming elections as per the instructions of the State Election Commission and sent it to the Commission. After that, the commission has also called the office bearers and scrutinized it.

But, the wards have not been finalised yet and no decision about elections has been announced. The delay is leading to speculation that will the election be held in February? However, it seems that the picture of when the elections will take place will be clear only after the winter session of the assembly.

While the Election Commission has the sole authority to decide when and how to conduct elections, the administration implements them. The Maharashtra State Assembly’s Winter Session is currently underway in Mumbai. It will end today. It is understood that a meeting between the government and the Election Commission will be held only after this, and only after that the picture of when the election will be held will be clear.

Given the current situation, there is a lot of rumours about holding elections. The existing five-year of 18 Municipal Corporations of the State will end in February including Nashik Bruhanmumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Panvel, Mira-Bhayander, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Solapur, Nashik, Malegaon, Parbhani, Nanded-Waghala, Latur, Amravati, Akola, Nagpur and Chandrapur.

Term expires in January-February 2022. The Mahavikas Aghadi government in the state has decided to abolish the four-member panel system, which was useful for the BJP and create a three-member ward structure.

Accordingly, after receiving the instructions of the Commission, the Municipal Commissioner and senior officers have prepared a rough plan of the wards and sent it to the Commission. However, as no decision has been taken yet, the election is likely to postpone. However, the decision is likely to be taken after the end of the session.

If the ward structure had been announced during or before the convention, it would have affected the leaders of various parties and their local MLAs. Because they would have had to pay attention at the local level as well as at the session, there is also talk that the ward structure has not been announced.
