NASHIK: Against the backdrop of the rising craze of online gambling among youths, a letter has been sent to the State government by Commissioner of Police Deepak Pandey demanding changes in the law.
The Maharashtra Organized Crime Control Act requires action against those who gamble offline and online. Provision is required in the MPDA Act to protect against the ill effects of online gambling, the letter stated.
The Government of Maharashtra must take a firm stand on the Roulette Act. A proposal for this has been submitted to the Home Department and state’s Director General of Police. With a turnover of thousands of crores of rupees, online gambling is hitting the youth hard. Considering the matter’s seriousness, seven states have made amendments in the relevant laws, it added.
