Nashikites save heritage banyan tree

NASHIK: For the proposed flyover from Trimurti Chowk to Mico Circle, it was decided to cut down the heritage Banyan tree near Untwadi bridge in Nashik. The heritage tree of over 200 year old has been saved after an assuring tweet from the Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray. The Nashik Municipal Corporation had put a notice on the heritage tree and appealed to notify objection.

The notice was put on January 17 and the NMC have only 7 days to raise objections. But, within in no time the environment lovers and Nashikites United and opposed the decision. The Nashikites expressed that they want development but not at the cost of environment. The atmosphere in Nashik had been restless since the notice was put. Tweet of @AUThackeray

I spoke to Nashik Municipal Commissioner Kailash Jadhav ji and requested him to rework the design of the proposed flyover that would currently need to cut a 200 yr old tree and cut 450+ other trees. The 200 year old Banyan tree and the temple inside it has been saved.

No need of flyover: Bhujbal

Breaking his silence on the proposed flyover by Nashik Municipal Corporation at Trimurti chowk in the city, Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal while speaking to the media, said that there is no need for a flyover at that place. However, we will ensure that no trees are cut for this project, saving environment is also a priority. He however, also hinted that he can only suggest the NMC ask the corporators to take initiative to stop such projects which harms environment in the city
