Nashikites preferring electric bikes

NASHIK: Citizens have already faced financial crunches due to Covid-19 outbreak and lockdown. In addition, there is a continuous increase in petrol and diesel prices in the country as well as in Nashik district. This has put more economic stress on two-wheeler riders. As fuel prices are rising, Nashikites have now opted for other options.

The electric two-wheelers have started running on city streets. They cost less than petrolpowered bikes. Citizens are also relieved as there are many options available in the market for electric bikes. As a result, the trend of citizens towards electric bikes is on the rise. Electric bikes have many advantages. The daily cost and maintenance cost of an electric bike is much less than that of a petrol bike.

Also, electric bikes are light in weight and can be easily ridden by girls and senior citizens. An electric bike typically consumes three units of electricity in a single charge. Once charged, the bike usually runs 100 to 150 km. Even if one unit costs Rs 10, an electric two-wheeler can cover 150 km at Rs 30, which means less than 50 paise per km.

The world is fighting pollution today. Electric bikes are pollution-free and do not harm the environment. The electric bike can be charged anytime, anywhere, so there is no problem for the rider. These vehicles are convenient as the battery of the bike can be charged at home. Electric vehicles are way simpler than that of petrol-diesel bikes. The central government has amended the FEM-2 scheme to increase subsidies for electric vehicles. The decision has been taken to boost electric vehicles. Electric two-wheelers are now subsidized at Rs 15,000 per kwh.
