Nashik: The members of the Nashik District Muslim Samaj Utkarsh Samiti organized a rasta roko at Dwarka Chowk area here on Monday to press for their various demands including 20 per cent reservation for Muslim community. Hundreds of Muslims gathered at Dwarka Chowk area and staged the rasta roko, creating traffic jam on all sides of the corner. The Bhadrakali police rushed to spot and detained the protesters.
An ordinance granting five per cent reservation for the Muslim community was passed by the CongressNCP combine government in 2014, but the subsequent Devendra Fadnavis government had let the ordinance to lapse as it did not convert into law. Then, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government came to power, but the Muslim community has not yet received the reservation, it was alleged. Reservation is important for the progress of the society and for bringing the Muslim community into the mainstream, it was stated.
