Imposter arrested in Deolali Camp

DEOLALI CAMP: Acting on a tip-off, security personnel apprehended an imposter in Deolali Cantonment Board area yesterday. The individual was arrested for duping people of money on the pretext of getting them recruited in the army through the recent recruitment rally at Artillery Centre, Nashik.

Dressed in a combat uniform with ranks of Major, he visited Cantt area and collected documents of people (participating in the recruitment rally) on the pretext of helping them to get into the army. He convinced them by stating that he was a serving army officer and could help them in the process.

The culprit has been identified as Ganesh Walu Pawar. (s/o Walu Karbari Pawar, resident of Harsul Village, Chandwa Tehsil, District Nashik, Maharashtra). He was accompanied by his driver, Nilesh Chhabu Khaire, who had allegedly paid Pawar Rs. 3,00,000 for getting a job as a civil defence employee in the armed forces. Upon further investigation, the officials found out he collected Rs.15 lakh by duping individuals and assuring them entry into armed forces. He also took money in lakhs from some other individuals.

Military Intelligence, Southern Command, Pune, had received information about recruitment agents duping people of money at the recruitment rally. Security personnel apprehended the culprit and handed him over to the police.

Other recoveries made during the initial investigation were photographs of the individual in Military uniforms, character certificate and serving certificate created using the fake stamp of station headquarters, Deolali. Using the above-mentioned documents, Ganesh Pawar also took a loan of Rs. 39 lakh from Union Bank of India, Chandwad branch, for constructing his house in the village. An FIR has been filed against Pawar, and further investigations are in progress.
