Global Day of Parents 2021

NASHIK: The United Nations recognises 1st June as Global Day of Parents to honour them and mark the sacrifices they made for their children. The day lays special emphasis on the importance of parents in one’s life and their continuous support to children to help them fight the toughest battles in life. Even though parents deserve honour ad respect throughout the whole year, this day works as a reminder for all.

Parents stay in our life through all kinds of life’s storms and advice us with practical solutions to our problems. They sacrifice their food, sleep, comfort, or even their career while upbringing a child. We will always have their back, and they will support us when no one else does. On the occasion of Parent’s Day, Deshdoot interviewed parents of various fields to understand the amount of courage and strength required for becoming a parent.

I have been working since my child was 4 months old. Now, his wife is five months pregnant. I have three children: two boys and one girl. I started working as a maid when my eldest son was four months old. I used to work as a maid and do massages for people while carrying my son along with me. I used to put him on the bed of whomsoever’s house I was working and used to complete my work silently, so he doesn’t wake up. My daughter, now married, used to look after the house while I used to work outside. I remember waking up at 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. to make tiffin for my kids for their school. I compromised my whole life for their well-being. Now, both my sons are at a good position in their life.

My husband retired recently from Army and is looking for another job. I complete 5 years of teaching in 2020 and still teach in Army Public School. While my husband had a decent salary and we could easily survive in the amount, I studied after my kids were born and took up a job to secure my children’s future. Even though we were financially stable, I wanted to secure their future. Studying while handling a joint family wasn’t a slice of cake for me. However, when it comes to children, any parent will cross oceans for them.

I never went to a proper English medium school because my parents weren’t wealthy enough. I left school and started a business at an early age to give a great life to my children. I worked at a bar, video cassette shop, ration shop, and then finally, opened my mobile accessories shop. My children studied in good schools and are successful in their lives. I wanted them to enjoy all the comforts of life, and I worked hard to ensure that they get every bit of it.

Being a parent is not at all an easy job. You need to look after your child’s health, education, overall well-being, and many other aspects of life. I remember giving up on my sleep to keep a check on my children. When they were small, I used to get up in the middle of the night to ensure if they are in the middle of the bed, sleeping properly. Now, I get up to wake them up for school or exams. Their dad wakes up to make breakfast for them and used to drop them off till the school before the pandemic. We have given up on sleep and other comforts for our children because they are my kids.
