Garbage Vans should be CNG; electric

NASHIK: A senior corporator of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Salim Shaikh, in a letter to Municipal Commissioner Kailas Jadhav has demanded that the condition of having CNG and electric should be included in the tender for the purpose of protecting the environment.

Currently, environmental pollution is a serious issue. To address this problem, the Central and State Governments are taking steps to promote the use of CNG and electric vehicles. The administration had also submitted a proposal in this regard at the last general body meeting. But the administration is taking a skeptical stance on the Ghantagadi tender.

About 400 or more garbage Vans will run through the streets of the city. This includes the condition that only certain vehicles have CNG. But if this condition applies to all bell trains, the environmental impact will be controlled. The letter states that the damage will be reduced and the city’s environmental level will be raised.

The Central Government and the Supreme Court have also passed various directions and orders expressing concern over environmental issues. Grants have also been provided for the purchase of electric vehicles for this purpose.

Therefore, if Municipal Corporation is forced to take Ghantagadi in CNG and electric form, it will help in protecting the environment and will save a lot of money on fuel for the Corporation contractors. Efforts can also be made to get special grants from the government. This is what Sheikh has said. He has also sent a letter of demand to Union Environment Minister and State Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray and Pollution Control Board.
