Focus on Bajra, maize, soybean; Govt projects kharif sowing on 62840 hectares

The agriculture department has projected kharif cultivation on a total 62840 hectare in Sinnar
tehsil this season and has made arrangements to ensure that farmers get adequate seeds and fertilisers.

Bajra, maize, soybean and cash crop cotton have projected to come under more cultivation this kharif season.

Bajra, the major crop in tehsil with projection of 27530 hectare under cultivation this kharif season.

The agriculture department has projected 11961 hectare of field under maize crop and 13970 hectare under soybean. While in the eastern parts of tehsil, cotton area which is a major cash crop in the area may extend to 1410 hectare, as per the set target by agricultural department for kharif season.

In the western parts of the tehsil, the department has projected land under cultivation as follows – 901 hectare for paddy and 48 hectare for nagli, while 41299 hectare for grass grain and millet crops like tur 471 hectare, moon 888 hectare, urad 799 hectare besides other crops to come under cultivation on 114 hectares of land, thus expecting sowing on 2272 hectares.

With regard to oilseeds crop, soybean tops the table with 13970 hectares of farm field projected to be under cultivation, followed by groundnut 3812 hectare and sunflower on 72 hectares.

In the eastern parts of Sinnar tehsil, cotton cultivation has been a traditional and major cash crop. This year, an extended 1470 hectares of field has been projected for Colton crop.

As far as the projection for the district land under cultivation is concerned, the state agriculture department has projected kharif cultivation on 6.33 lakh hectares in Nashik
district this season and has made elaborate arrangements to ensure that farmers get adequate seeds and fertilisers.

Maize, cotton, bajra, moong, urad, soybean, jowar and bajra are the major kharif crops in the region. In the 2019 kharif season, the state agriculture department had projected kharif sowing on 6.36 lakh hectres in the district.

Meanwhile, the state has set a revenue target of  Rs 44,025 crore through production of kharif crops this year.
Maharashtra has a cultivable area of 174 lakh hectares. Around 149.7 lakh hectares are under kharif crops and 57 lakh hectares under rabi. Major kharif crops include rice, sorghum, millet, maize, tur, cotton, soybean and sugarcane and Rabi crops include sorghum, wheat and gram.

Soybean tops the list with 13970 hectare, followed by groundnut on 3812 hectare and sunflower on 72 hectare. In the eastern part of the tehsil, cotton has been cultivated on a large scale for the last eight to ten years. This crop is seen as a cash crop. During Diwali, farmers get a promising income from cotton. The agriculture department has projected cotton cultivation on 1410 hectares of land area this season.
