District unlocks from today

NASHIK: Nashik district has been included in the Level 3 of the restrictions to break the chain. And hence from today (Monday, June 7) all shops have been allowed to open from 7 am to 4 pm. District Collector Suraj Mandhare said that the danger has not yet been averted. Follow the rules to keep the health cycle intact along with the business activity.

However, these relaxations do not avert the danger and hence Nashikites have to abide by the conditions otherwise they will have to face the third wave. “We want to keep the health cycle intact along with business. The condition is not a restriction but a shield of safety from the Corona. People should cooperate with the administration by abiding it, said District Collector Suraj Mandhare.

Against the backdrop that all transactions will be unlocked from today, in a video message on Sunday, District Collector Mandhare has appealed to Nashikites to follow the rules. “There were 1000 active patients in the district last February. So everything was unlocked. We all acted carelessly while the experts were warning of another wave. The rules and conditions were not followed at all. The result was a second wave. The number of active patients reached 40,000 in one month. This wave had caused a lockdown once again,” he reminded.

Although the wave has subsided after a great deal of effort, the danger has not yet been averted, he alerted. At present 7,000 patients are undergoing treatment. The death toll from Corona is rising every day. Although it has been unlocked from today, he appealed to the people to strictly abide by the conditions given.

The conditions imposed during the fight against Corona are safety shields. Don’t be careless about unlocking everything, otherwise you will have to face the third wave, he warned. Mandhare reiterated his appeal to the people to abide by the rules if they do not want another lockdown.

Why Nashik district falls in Level 3 ?

For “Level 3”, the areas will be required to have a positivity rate between 5% and 10% or oxygenated bed occupancy of more than 40%. As per the general discussion held in the meeting held on 05/06/2021, the district has been divided into two administrative units ie, outside Nashik Municipal Corporation linits and the Nashik Municipal Corporation limits.

In order to implement the restrictions of Covid-19 in both these components, the positivity rate of Covid-19 patients in the district and the number of patients undergoing treatment on oxygen beds in the district have been taken into consideration. On June 03, 2021, the positivity rate of Covid19 patients in Nashik Municipal Corporation area was 3.8% and the positivity rate of Covid19 patients in the rest of the district except Nashik Municipal Corporation area was 8.3%.

However, experience over the years has shown that the positivity rate changes in part, as the information on the portal is updated by various laboratories. At present out of total 2770 oxygen beds in Nashik Municipal Corporation area, patients are undergoing treatment on 618 oxygen beds and this proportion is 22.31 per cent of the total number of available beds.

Out of 2486 oxygen beds available in rural areas of Nashik district, patients are undergoing treatment on 379 beds at a rate of 15.25 per cent. Nashik Municipal Corporation’s Dr Zakir Hussain hospital and Bytco are the two main Covid hospitals currently treating more than 40% Covid-19 patients on oxygen beds, informed the District Disaster Management Authority.

Also in Nashik Municipal Corporation limits, a large number of citizens come and go from the working area of the rest of the district on a daily basis and if different rules are made in both Nashik Municipal Corporation and rural district, there is a possibility of confusion among the people as well as large number of citizens from rural areas.
