Distribution of Khawati through rationing shops

NASHIK: The Tribal Development Corporation (TDC) has started the process of delivering Kirana or groceries to the beneficiaries of the second phase of the Khawati scheme through government rationing shops. A proposal in this regard has also been submitted by the Corporation to the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Distribution of groceries through rationing shops will avoid inconvenience to the beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Tribes in the state.

For the past year and a half, the Corona epidemic has disrupted life everywhere. The Tribal Development Corporation’s Khawati grant scheme has been revived to provide relief to the tribals in this crisis. The state government has sanctioned Rs 482 crore for the khawati scheme, each of which was declared a khawati of Rs 4,000, (Rs two thousand in cash and two thousand in groceries).

The applications of the beneficiaries were filled by conducting a statewide survey through the Ashram school teachers and teaching staff of the tribal department. On Maharashtra’s day, the government transferred Rs 2,000 in the first phase to the accounts of about 10 lakh beneficiaries. So the implementation of the second phase has started.

Under this, it is planned to extend the benefit of groceries to the beneficiary tribal brothers. Meanwhile, Nitin Patil, Managing Director of the Corporation, presented the idea of distributing grocery kits through cheap food shops to the Secretaries of Food and Civil Supplies in Mumbai. The proposal was presented to them. Therefore, there are signs that groceries will soon be distributed from cheap food shops.

Relief to the teachers

The responsibility for the work of Shikshan Setu Abhiyan, including the distribution of materials in the second phase of the Khawati grant scheme, was likely to be handed over to the ashram school teachers-teaching staff. As a result, the teacher teaching staff unions had expressed dissatisfaction with both the work.

“Now, as the distribution of groceries will be done through cheap grain shops, the concerned will be greatly relieved. There may be limitations in the delivery of groceries to the tribals in remote areas. Therefore, it has been proposed to the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to distribute groceries through government rationing shop. They are also getting positive response and distribution of Kirana goods will start soon.” – Nitin Patil, Managing Director, Tribal Development Corporation.
