City Bus service to start on April 1: NMC

Nashik: Nashik Municipal Corporation has decided to start city bus service from April 1, 2020. A meeting regarding the city bus service was held with Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) on Friday in hustle.

The city bus service which was announced one and an half year back has finally got a date. MNGL has also given nod to provide Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in liquid form with tanker service. The apex body of city had decided to run 400 buses under the city bus service. Earlier it was decided to 200 CNG buses, 200 diesel buses.

After suggestion by the former Chief Minister the number of diesel buses was reduced to 50 and it was decided to procure 150 electric buses. But now the NMC has finally decided to run only three hundred buses in which 200 will be CNG buses and 50 electric and diesel buses. The decision has taken to cut the loss as the prices of electric buses are high.

The Corporation has said that with the bus service they will try to provide commuter friendly and effective mean of transportation. The bus service will also be environment friendly and will reduce pollution and traffic congestions as well.

Opposition to work on petition
Opposition has opposed the project and is ready to petition against the city bus service. It has said that the in General Body Meeting the proposal was passed to form a transportation committee but instead the company has been formed. To run the city bus service is not a good idea, as nowhere in world such project has run on profit. The senior corporator, Gurmeet Bagga said that they are working on filing a petition.
