Chennai-Surat greenfield corridor

NASHIK: A review meeting of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was held recently and land transfer work for Chennai-Surat greenfield corridor was reviewed in it. The transfer of land for the corridor has been started. This corridor will cover a distance of 176 km in Nashik district. This corridor will pass from six talukas namely Surgana-PethDindori-Nashik-Niphad-Sinnar and from near 69 villages.

The development of the district will get impetus due to this corridor, informed MP Hemant Godse. After construction of the corridor, the distance between Nashik and Surat will be reduced. It will be constructed under greenfield concept as Surat-Nashik-Ahmednagar-Karmala-Solapur-ColonelKadapa-Chennai. This will reduce the distance between the two major  cities by 350 km.

The process of transfer of land of forest department in Surgana, Peth and Dindori talukas has been completed and the actual work has been started. Deputy General Manager of National Highways Authority of India M S Kumar R K Pandey, Mahabir Singh, Manoj Kumar, Alok, S S Sandhu and other officials were present for the meeting. With construction of the new corridor, one can reach Chennai from Surat within 10 hours, while travel time between Nashik to Chennai will be cut down to eight hours.

  • Surat – Chennai: 1250 kms

  • Time: 10 hours

  • Nashik-Surat: 176 km

  • Time: 2 hours

  • Nashik to Chennai: 8 hours
