Campaign intensifies from today

NASHIK: Going way ahead from the present ‘ No helmet, No petrol’, ‘No helmet, No Cooperation’ rules and which is followed by counselling process and examination of the helmetless riders, the traffic police are now tightening the helmet rule further from today with intensification of the campaign along with focus on punitive action.

As per the new rules, a two-wheeler rider without a helmet will be fined Rs 500. If found without a helmet for the second time, such a two-wheeler rider will have to pay a double penalty to the tune of Rs.1000. Going further in its punitive measures, the cops will be empowered to revoke license of the rule violators for three months.

At the same time, if the fine amount is not paid, the vehicle will be seized and returned only after paying the penalty. Police Commissioner Deepak Pandey has strictly implemented the helmet rule in the city. In it, citizens are being encouraged to use helmets through various means. At present, there is ‘No helmet, No cooperation’ campaign is going on.

Earlier, examinations were being conducted for those who drive without helmets and many brave people were seen sitting for hours to solve the 20- minute paper which they equated with a more severe punishment. These days, Nashikites are facing cold wave like conditions as well as traffic management on the other.

Motorcyclists are cost dearly for not wearing or forgetting helmets even by mistake. However, citing low response from the citizens to different measures right from creating awareness about the benefits of wearing helmet upto ‘non-cooperation’ movement, the police have now moved one step ahead to crack down on the helmetless bikers with stringent punitive measures in order to imbibe discipline among the citizens through tightened traffic norms for their own safety and smooth and safe vehicular movement.

The Commissioner of Police Deepak Pandey who led the Helmet rule campaign right from its launch upto adopting stringent punitive measures effective from today, has exuded confidence that in the future, Nashik will be a leading city not only in Maharashtra but also in India for the disciplined use of helmet.

Earlier, many people were avoiding use of helmet. However, due to extensive implementation of the drive by the Commissioner of Police by adopting different strategies from time to time, many people have started wearing helmets.
