BJP protests against govt over OBC quota issue

KOHLAPUR: As part of the statewide agitation, BJP today (Thursday) held protest against the Maha Vikas Aghadi government after the Supreme Court rejected the OBC quota in local bodies.

Led by party OBC Vice President Sandeep Kumbhar and Kolhapur BJP President Rahul Chikode, the protestors first remembered late Gopinath Munde on his memorial day. Later, they gathered in front of the Collectorate and sloganeered against the MVA. They asserted that the Supreme Court quashed the petition filed to review the OBC quota issue due to the MVA’s “incompetence” and “carelessness”.

Speaking during the protest, Kumbhar said, “CM Uddhav Thackeray has not yet reacted on the Court’s decision. On December 12 of 2019, the Supreme Court had suggested to constitute a backward commission for the OBC community and submit empirical data in favour of the quota. But, the MVA neglected the Court’s suggestion and didn’t constitute the Commission. The government should immediately take a decision to constitute the Commission.

Subsequently, the protestors met the Additional Secretary Santosh Jane and submitted a memorandum pertaining to their demands.
