Birds rescued from hunting traps

NASHIK: On December 9, around 10:15 pm, Deputy Forest Conservator, East, Nashik, Tushar Chavan, and Sanjay More, Assistant Forest Conservator (Junkas and Campa), East, Nashik, sent mobile WhatsApp messages. Through the message, it was learned that some hunters are hunting birds in Ramwadi Shivara near Mauje-Dahivad in Umrane Circle of Deola Forest Reserve.

On December 10, 2021, while walking with the staff in Dahiwad, Ramwadi area as per the suggestion of the seniors, two Titar or Francolin birds were found in a basket under the Babul tree near a Nullah. A search of the area turned up discovering four hunting nets and three hunting traps. The accused were not found during the search.

The Primary Offence Report (POR) was issued there by the Umrane Area Forest Ranger. Both live Titar birds were then released into the natural habitat. Further investigations are being carried out by forester Umrane.

The action was taken under the guidance of DCF Tushar Chavan, DFO Hemant Shewale, and ACF Sanjay More. The villagers of Dahiwad village Sanjay Deore and other villagers as well as forest range officer KP Dumse, forester Arun More, Forest Ranger Manik Salunke, Forest Ranger Ashok Bagul, Forest Worker Ramesh Salunke, driver Rakesh Gaikwad and Range One staff provided valuable assistance.
