NASHIK: Former mayor Dashrath Patil has demanded the commissioner Kailas Jadhav to release the financial white paper of the corporation, alleging that Nashik Municipal Corporation is in financial crisis due to substandard work, negligence of officials and lack of regular audit.
Former Mayor Patil met Municipal Commissioner Kailas Jadhav on Monday and drew attention to the financial situation in NMC. With the administrative approval of the General Assembly for the rough estimate of development works, the money collected from the public tax funds are not used properly.
The development work are deteriorating due to lack of attention on the part of the authorities. Since the contractors are being paid without inspecting these works, the money of the corporation is being literally looted. Quality of work, prescribed deadlines are not taken into consideration.
Billions of rupees are being spent in the name of repairing the faulty roads while the responsibility of repairing the faulty roads lies with the concerned monopolists. It is being spent on the same work again and again within the deadline. The audit department, which is responsible for controlling it, is also turning a blind eye and there is a lack of regular audits.
The quality control department has neglected to check the quality of work. Due to lack of restrictions on availability of funds and expenditure, the overspending of NMC has increased by thousands of crores and NMC is moving towards financial crisis.
Therefore, the administration should publish the financial white paper of the corporation. In a statement submitted to the commissioner, Patil has demanded that an audit of the financial situation should be presented before the people of Nashik.
