After fuel, edible oil prices skyrocket

NASHIK: While the price of petrol has crossed Rs 100, now the prices of groceries have also gone up. It is noteworthy that the price of edible oil has gone up sharply over Rs. 150. In the last few days, the price of edible oil has gone up by Rs 20 to Rs 25 per kg. As a result. the monthly budget of the common man has disturbed.

Petrol and diesel prices are reaching new highs every day. Petrol has crossed Rs 100 and diesel has crossed Rs 90. As a result, the cost of transportation has gone up and inflation has skyrocketed across the country. The prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed. Transportation costs have risen by 10 to 15 per cent on all commodities.

Due to the huge increase in the import duty on edible oil, one has to pay Rs 2500 for a 15-litre container of oil. Peanut, soybean and sunflower oil prices have gone up by 20 to 40 per cent this month. In particular, India used to produce 80 to 85 lakh tonnes of edible oil annually. One hundred to one hundred and fifty lakh tonnes of edible oil has to be imported from abroad every year.

Sunflower oil is supplied from Malaysia and soybean oil is from the United States. However, due to the Covid-19 crisis, oil imports have been declined. As a result, there is a shortage of supply in the market across the country.

Therefore, oil traders say that edible oil prices have skyrocketed across the country. Traders, meanwhile, say there are signs that the situation will remain the same for the next few days. The overall budget of housewives has collapsed due to skyrocketing prices of edible oil and groceries. The common man is now facing an inflation rise amid economic hardship.
