46 tankers in service; June rains may reduce dependency

NASHIK :

A fortnight has passed since the beginning of June and the monsoon has become active in the district. However, some tehsils are still thirsty and are being supplied water by 46 tankers. The thirst of 91524 people in 139 villages is being quenched.

The highest number of 21 tankers are operating in Yeola tehsil while 6 tankers each in Peth, Surgana and Nandgaon are quenching the thirst of the scarcity-hit

Water is also being supplied to Chandwad, Deola and Trimbak by 2 tankers each, while one tanker has been pressed into service in Malegaon.

At present, 46 tankers and 64 acquired wells have been pressed into service to quench thirst of a population of 91,524 in 139 villages and hamlets in the district.

Compared to last year, however, the number of tankers has dropped drastically. Last time, in the fortnight of June, the number of tankers supplying water to villages had reached 400.

However due to the prolonged rains previous year which had lasted till December, the water stock in the district dams had increased significantly and many of the small medium and large projects were filled to the brim. As a result, the number of tankers this year has dropped significantly easing dependency on the water tanker.
