Malegaon city has become coronavirus hotspot. Half of the police personnel in Nashik district are deployed there. Police personnel have now been infected by a coronavirus. A total of 37 police personnel have been found positive so far. The number of state reserve police force (SRPF) is higher among them.
The number of coronavirus patients in Malegaon city is on the verge of 200. Since the declaration of lockdown on March 23, police personnel in Nashik district are on the streets.
A total of 27 check posts have been set up on district and state boundaries. Following a rise in patients at Malegaon, the number of police personnel has been increased there. Currently, a total of 1,800 police officials and personnel have been deployed there. District superintendent of police Dr Arti Singh is staying there.
However, police personnel are being found positive for the last week. Initially, four SRPF personnel found positive. Thereafter, a police constable and his wife turned positive. Followed by this the number of police personnel who turned positive has reached 37 in the last four days. 23 SRPF jawans are among them. The police force is worried about this.
As SRPF jawans are staying together, there is a fast spread of coronavirus among them, sources informed. Meanwhile, those who turned positive and those suspects have been checked and they all have been admitted to hospital.
Many police personnel in Nashik district rural police force are residents of Nashik. Many were travelling to Malegaon from Nashik. However, it has been made mandatory for all to stay there.
Medical check-up of all police personnel is being conducted. Those who found suspects are being quarantined. Coronavirus infected police personnel and SRPF jawans are being admitted to Nashik for treatment, informed district superintendent of police Dr Arti Singh.
