Road accident in Pune kills nine students


PUNE: As many as nine college students were killed in a road mishap at Loni Kalbhor area of Pune-Solapur Highway, in the early hours of Saturday.

According to Pune rural police, a speeding truck and a four-wheeler collided head-on near the Gram Panchayat office at Madam VakVasti in Loni-Kalbhor area of the Highway, killing nine students on-the-spot.

A primary investigation by rural police revealed that a group of nine students had gone for a trip to Raidgad Fort and the mishap took place when they were returning to their home town Yavat, by a four-wheeler.

The bodies of deceased have been sent to government-run Sassoon Hospital for post-mortem and matter is being investigated, police said.

The deceased were identified as Akshay Bharat Waikar, Vishal Subash Yadav, Nikhil Chandrakant Wabale, Noor mohhamed Attar, Parvej Attar, Subash Ramdas Bhise, Akshay Chandrakant Gite, Datta Ganesh Yadav and Juber Ajit Mulani.

All were residents of Yavat Village, police added.
