Police seize gutkha worth Rs 5 lakh
PANCHVATI: Police on Friday have seized a gutkha worth Rs. 25 lakh at Rasbihari Chowk around 11 am. During checking of a suspect vehicle, traffic branch personnel found 25 sacks of gutkha and tobacco in it. A case in connection with this has been registered at Adgaon police station.
The police personnel of city traffic branch unit I conducted this operation. Suspect Shankar Yeola (31, resident of Peth tehsil) has been taken into custody and has been handed over to Adgaon police. Police inspector of Zebra squad of Panchavati city traffic branch Sadanand Inamdar got a specific input.
Accordingly, police personnel Ganesh Malwal, Rajendra Jadhav, Anant Gore and Amil Kale while patrolling in Rasbihari Chowk area on Mumbai-Agra highway found Mahindra Marshal (MH 15 R 3775) coming from Adgaon.
Traffic personnel had suspicion over it, they stopped the concerned vehicle. During interrogation, vehicle driver Yeola gave evading replies. As police found gutkha in the vehicle during its checking, they seized vehicle and gutkha.
Senior police inspector of Adgaon police station Suraj Bijali informed Food and Drug Administration about this. During panchnama, gutkha and tobacco worth Rs. 4.91 lakh was found kept in 25 sacks.
