CR erects protective structure in Kasara ghat

Nashik : Central Railways (CR) has erected a protective structure in the Kasara Ghat tunnel. The steel structure has been erected to protect the track from boulders. The recent incidents of boulders from the mountain falling on the tracks made the central railways, take the step.

On July 26, 2019, heavy spots of rain lashed the Ghat section in Kasara and Igatpuri. Early morning on that day, boulders collapsed on tracks in the Kasara ghat section. The driver of the Devgiri express heading towards Mumbai realized the situation around 5:15 am in morning as the train approached tunnel number 3.

Showing presence of mind, the driver halted the train and a major accident was averted saving the lives of many passengers. The train had to wait for around two hours in ghat section as the tracks were cleared and in the process, the schedule of other trains was disrupted too. Most of the trains on this track were running 30 minutes late that day.

Sources from the CR stated that considering this incident, immediate steps were taken and necessary arrangements made to avoid such boulders falling on the tracks. The steel structure will definitely help protect the tracks and thereby the trains and make rail journeys safer.
