COVID-19 patient : Diet that boosts the immune system

Good nutrition is crucial for health, particularly in times when the immune system might need to fight back. In order to support individuals, COVID-19 patients in eating healthy during self-quarantine and isolation, a special diet has been suggested by the health ministry to boost their immunity.

The diet to boost the immunity of the patient includes consumption of herb extracts, snacks, and legumes (eg. lentils, beans) in the morning besides nutritious meal twice a day.

The number of corona positive cases in the district and particularly in hot-spot Malegaon town is increasing despite the preventive measures being taken by the district administration. Police, doctors, nurses and many frontline warriors are also getting infected with Covid-19. People between the age group of 31 and 40 are particularly more vulnerable to Coronavirus, while the mortality rate of the corona positive patients above the age group of 50 years is relatively higher.

Since there is no drug or vaccine is developed on the Covid-19 disease, the only option that left is to boost the patient’s immunity. With this in mind, a special diet has been suggested for Covid-19 positive patients.

As per the special diet, when the patient wakes up in the morning, he is given a teaspoon of herbal tea, ginger, cloves, basil, cinnamon and jaggery. After that breakfast is served at 8 am. It contains 2 boiled eggs, fruit salad and fruits like apples, watermelon, dates and black raisins. Also, upma or poha are served. Nutritious meals are then served at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The food dish contains chapati, bread, green leafy vegetables, pulses like dal other than rice and lentil (javas) chutney.

At 4 pm, snacks and herbal extracts are served. At dinner again, a meal dish with nutritional values consisting of green leafy vegetables and cereals is served as like in the afternoon. The Ministry of Health has developed this special diet for corona positive patients. The purpose behind it is to increase immunity.

The corona-positive patients are given herbal extracts twice a day and two-time meals which include green leafy vegetables, cereals, etc. Some patients are at risk with high blood pressure and diabetes. Diet is provided to them accordingly.

Diet for Covid-19 patients:

Before breakfast:
Herbal extracts of ginger, cloves, basil, cinnamon and jaggery.

Breakfast: 
2 boiled eggs, fruit salad and fruits like apples, watermelon, dates and black raisins. upma or poha.

Lunch: 
Chapati, bread, green leafy vegetables, pulses like dal other than rice and lentil (javas) chutney.

Mid-evening:
Snacks and herbal extracts.

Dinner:
Green leafy vegetables and cereals.
