City police to use drones to keep vigil on streets

NASHIK :

With less human resources and to keep vigil on the people gathering, and those wandering on the internal street roads, sqares, corners, markets during the 21-day lockdown period of COVID-19, the city police have decided to put into practice use of drone cameras to detect the gathering and disperse them.

The first trial of a drone is being taken at Ramkund in Panchavati. The drone cameras will keep aerial vigilance in all the 13 police station jurisdictions of the city.

Wherever there is assembly of people or violation of Section 188, detected by the drone, the city police under their respective jurisdictions will check the violation and act against the violators. Based on the visuals, the PCR van of the nearby police station will reach to the spot and clear the crowd.

To contain the spread of virus, the city is under a lockdown till April 14 and no public transport, including private buses, taxis and autorickshaws are being allowed to ply on the roads.

Centre has issued guidelines on essential services, what people can and cannot do during the lockdown. Violators will be punished, can face prison time. National Disaster Management Act, 2005 has been invoked for the
first time.
