Runner Ajay Rathi wins silver in 5,000m

NASHIK: Sprinter Ajay Rathi studying at Bhosla Military School, under the Khelo India initiative, won a silver medal in the men’s 5,000m at the 81st Inter-University Championship at Mudbidari (Karnataka). He broke the previous record of 14:17 seconds and set a new record of 14: 05.86.

The competition has been going on for the last four days at Mangalore South Kannada, Karnataka and will. About two thousand players from four hundred universities of the country and one thousand sports coaches, competition officials have participated in this competition.

The competition is sponsored by the Association of Indian Universities (ATU) and the University of Mangalore, and the Alivaz Education Foundation. Prince of Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) took the lead from the start and won the gold medal in the men’s 5,000m event held this morning.

He recorded a time of 13: 36.12 while Ajay Rathi of Nashik won silver and K Satish of Karnataka (14:22:05) had to settle for a bronze medal. The challenge of Maharashtra University has come to an end in this competition.
