Pawar appeals to citizens to celebrate festivals at homes

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday appealed to the people of the state not to leave their house to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti and Shab-e-Barat On Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, saying they should worship and pray in their houses, in the wake of Novel Coronavirus.

A statement issued from Mr Pawar’s office in Mumbai said, ‘In the Ramayana, Hanuman had lifted the entire mountain to save Lakshmana’s life. But now, there is a need to stay at home, to save the people from Coronavirus.

‘Muslim brothers should not leave the house for Shabbat-e-Barat on Thursday. Tthey should pray in the house,’ he said. He said breaking the chain of COVID-19 and saving the lives of citizens is the prime duty of every person in the country, including the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister.

‘It is our responsibility not to leave the house, not to come in contact with the outside persons, not to allow Corona to spread and break the chain of COVID-19. ‘Until further notice, festivals, , worships, prayers, rituals, jatra, and religious activities should be done indoors, and no one should leave the house,’ he added.

He said the number of people infected with the deadly disease was increasing by hundreds everyday. This increase is alarming. Citizens need to recognise the seriousness of the situation and keep themselves indoors. The government has decided to seal parts of the state. Ban orders have been issued. Those who violate the ban orders, will be prosecuted and imprisoned, he added.
