District dams 82% full

As many as 24 water reservoirs in the district including 7 big projects and 17 medium, currently hold 54195 mcft of useful water stock out of the total collective storage capacity of 65818 Mcft.

Thus availabile water stock in the district dams has reached 82 per cent. On the other hand, 88.05% rainfall has so far been recorded since June 1 up to September 2 this year in the district compared to the last year’s 127.1 pc.

While Gangapur dam is 94% full due to incessant rainfall in the catchment area, with average water stock in the dam complex reaching 84%. According to the report received yesterday, water was being discharged from Gangapur Dam at the reduced rate of 264 cusecs.

Besides the Gangapur dam, water release was underway from 9 other dams including Punegaon (150 cusecs) Darna 1350 cusecs, Bhavli 135, Valdevi 406, Kadva 636, Nandur Madhyameshwar weir 6456, Haranbari 251, Kelzar 75 and Punad 640 cusecs.

While heavy water discharge was continued from the Nandur Madhyameshwar weir at the rate of 6456 cusecs, helping major Jayakwadi project to cross 84% water level.

As far as the average rainfall is concerned, Igatpuri taluka in the district has so far received highest rainfall at 3419 mm for the period from June 1, 2020 to September 2, 2020.

During the corresponding period of the last year it had received 4528 mm of rainfall, followed by Peth with 1434 mm rainfall compared to the last year’s 2815 mm, Trimbakeshwar 1321 mm (3567 mm last year) and Surgana 1204 mm (2312 mm).

Niphad taluka in the district is at the bottom of the rainfall proportion it has so far received just 416 mm of rainfall compared to the last year’s 391 mm of rainfall.

Even though the discharge of water has been reduced from highest 2080 cusecs to 264 cusecs, the district administration has issued a toll free 1077 for the convenience of citizens and people residing on the bank of Godavari. All the concerned tahsildars have been instructed to take adequate preventive measures, to alert field staff and keep rescue system ready.
