Bride distributes sanitary pads as gifts

NASHIK: The wedding of Swati Dighole and Akshay Pansare, recently held at Nashik Road, is gaining attention from all corners for all the right reasons. The bride Swati Dighole distributed sanitary pads to all females present at their wedding. Her act is receiving appreciation on social media for the same.

Dighole is a woman entrepreneur who runs her sanitary pads factory at Naigaon, Sinnar. She wanted to do something different to generate awareness about menstrual health and hygiene. Her husband, Akshay Pansare, supported her in this decision, and they distributed pads at their wedding to break the taboo associated with women’s monthly cycle, period.

We all have heard about DJ, gold jewellery, marriage halls, dresses, rituals, delicious food, and other items associated with marriage. However, distributing sanitary pads is a first. This unique wedding ceremony at Rajrajeshwari Mangal Karyalaya in Nashik Road is being appreciated everywhere.

Period, part of a female menstrual cycle, is never discussed openly in public. Even though everywhere is aware of the release of blood from a girl’s uterus, the topic isn’t discussed in detail. As a result, many females aren’t even aware of the hygiene required during the period, thus leading to health problems.

The duo contributed to the government’s Menstrual Hygiene Scheme by distributing pads in open and encouraging females to talk about period openly. The friends and guests present at the wedding accepted the sanitary pads gift and praised Dighole for her unique and innovative idea.

“The whole idea behind the initiative was to generate awareness among females regarding menstrual hygiene and care. my husband, Akshay Pansare, supported me and helped me in implementing this idea at our wedding. Many women in rural areas don’t speak openly about period and thus face health problems due to lack of proper hygiene. I aim to break the stereotypes associated with it and work for these females. I have a factory at Sinnar and want to provide employment opportunities to females.” – Swati Dighole, Bride
