70 percent drop in business : Tourism sector in Nashik hit by pandemic

The Coronavirus or Covid-19, which has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) is spreading like a fire in the globe. The Covid-19 has stooped the globe, cities have been locked down, schools, colleges are shut, and international borders are sealed. The pandemic has affected almost all the sectors in Nashik city too. The tourism sector has specifically been hit hard by the outbreak of Covid-19.

Travel Agents Association of Nashik (TAAN) informed that 70 per cent bookings have been cancelled from Nashik. Both the domestic and international bookings have been hit by the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Around 5,000 international and domestic bookings have been cancelled by Nashikites. The bookings from Rs 5000 to Rs 6 lakh have been cancelled from 107 tour and travel agencies in Nashik district.

Earlier, TAAN had informed that in interstate vacations like, Matheran, Mahabaleshwar, Lonawala, and as well other hill stations are in demand. In the domestic market, the holiday packages for Kerala are very high, especially among newlyweds. After that, Southern India has in high demand with Andaman Nicobar, Rameshwaram and beach sites in India. The international tourist hotspots for Nashikites in this season are Dubai, Myanmar, Mauritius, Singapore and most of the South East Asian Block.

Unfortunately, the tourist hotspots which were booked by Nashikites have become the outbreak hotspots of the Covid-19 spread. The Middle East, Dubai, South East Block is the epicentre of the virus. In India, the Kerala state has the highest number of Covid-19 positive patients. In such conditions, people have cancelled their bookings. It is expected that the loss will increase every day and cancellation will continue.
