57 online fraud cases registered in district

NASHIK :

Many in the district have been duped of Rs 21.40 lakh by online fraudsters during lockdown period. Rural cyber police have succeeded in returning Rs 4.47 lakh to complainants. A total of 57 cases have been registered in connection with this.

Lockdown is in place in the district since March 23 in order to contain coronavirus spread. Due to this online fraudsters got active. They had lured many on the pretext of giving loans, online jobs, lottery and others and duped them of Rs 21.40 lakh. However, some complainants had rushed to rural cyber branch. Cyber police stopped their online transactions and succeeded in returning Rs 4.47 lakh to complainants.

18 cases for rumour mongering

A total of 18 cases have been registered in connection with spreading rumour, false news using social media. Facebook, tiktok, twitter, instagram and whatsapp were used for making posts regarding corona viral. 32 suspects have been arrested in connection with this. Five cases have been registered for making fake Facebook page of wine shops at various places in the district.
