Rural police activate Social Media Cell to counter online crimes


Nashik: The Nashik rural police have activated a special Social Media Cell to counter online crimes and take immediate cognizance of the complaints received online. “The move is a part of “people policing” – a concept brought into reality by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis,” said district superintendent of police Sanjay Darade.

The DSP was speaking while inaugurating the special Social Media Cell at the Nashik rural police HQ here. Keeping strict vigil on the online complaints, the specially designed cell will be operated and controlled by officials of deputy superintendent level. A weekly review will also be taken to redress public grievances, received online on prompt basis, said Darade.

Addl SP Vishal Gaikwad, dy supdt (police HQ) Atul Zende, PI Rajkumar Upase and Ashok Karpe besides senior police officials and police personnel were present.

The rural police is now opting for high tech system to fight crime and to seek timely help on any eventuality through powerful use of social media tools like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter etc. This will prompt the police to quickly take the remedial measures.

“The people should immediately contact Nashik rural office of the superintendent of police against social evils like objectionable video posts, clips, messages, spread of religious disharmony on social sites besides incidences like hacking of ATM, bank a/cs etc,” appealed the police.
