Police crack down on gambling dens, arrest 32 persons


NASHIK : Acting on a tip-off, the city crime branch police raided multiple gambling dens across the city areas and arrested 32 persons from the spots with a seizure of gambling material and Rs 50,000 in cash.

In its first raid, the police cracked down on a gambling den behind Baba Medicals in Bhadrakali area and arrested persons Mohd Shaikh Gani Miya, Afzal Pathan, Bandu Raut, Salim Beig and Mansoor Ibrahim. The police seized gambling material along with Rs 5,390 in cash from them.

The Unit II of the city crime branch also conducted raids at two different locations in Satpur MIDC. In its first raid at Vidhate Mala of Salunkhenagar of Satpur MIDC, the police apprehended 15 gamblers including key operator Nitin Dhansingh Patil and seized from them Rs 42,180 in cash.

In yet another raid carried out at Rajivnagar slums, the crime branch police caught over 10 gamblers red-handed including key operator Himmat Ganpat Gadekar and confiscated from them Rs 2,690 in cash and gambling material.

The action of the city crime branch assumes great significance on the backdrop of the illegal activities which were going on despite prohibitory orders issued by the city police commissioner.
