MVP’s Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College is the first dedicated COVID-19 hospital in North Maharashtra where 300 COVID-19 patients can be treated at a time. The frontline police, health and government officials infected with coronavirus while on duty will be treated at this well-equipped hospital. The medical college will also provide diet and meals to the admitted patients who are positive.

The COVID-19 Testing Lab, first in North Maharashtra, has started operating on 29th April at Dr. Vasantrao Pawar Medical College. So far, more than a thousand swab samples have been tested at the lab. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved Dr Vasantrao Pawar Medical College as Covid-19 Hospital as the medical college has all the necessary setup for treatment of corona positive patients. Accordingly, only COVID-19 positive patients will be treated at this hospital now.

Although the hospital has a capacity of 500 beds, however, it has been converted into a well equipped 300-bed facility to maintain social distancing. The hospital has been reserved primarily for the treatment of police, health and government employees who test positive for coronavirus while on duty. A team of 250 specialist doctors and nurses has been kept ready to provide medical treatment to COVID patients.

For this, MCI has given online training to the doctors and nurses of the hospital on how to treat corona positive patients. At present, 20 corona positive policemen are to be treated at the hospital. In a day or two, 20 COVID positive police personnel will be admitted for advanced treatment.

Hostel facility for staff

The hospital has a strong staff 250 specialist doctors, nurses and health workers. The medical college has made a provision of a hostel facility for these frontline staff to stay. This is because doctors are also at risk of infection while giving treatment to COVID19 patients. To avoid this, an independent hostel facility has been provided.

A 7-day shift

Doctors, nurses and other staff treating patients in the hospital have been given 7 days duty period. After the week, the second medical team will take over the charge from the first team. Also, safety kits will be provided to the doctors, nurses by the district hospital.

Ready to combat Covid-19

Serving in the corona crisis is everyone’s duty and responsibility. After the COVID-19 Testing Lab, the medical college has now been declared as the well equipped COVID-19 hospital to treat corona positive patients. PPE safety kits and other medical assistance and equipment are being provided by the district administration.
