Police take suspects into custody for damaging vehicles


Panchavati : A gang of 40-50 persons had ransacked vehicles around 11 pm on Monday in Patharvat Lane area, Panchavati to create terror among residents. Police filed a case of riot in connection with this and have taken five suspects into their custody so far for interrogation. The residents of Patharvat Lane area got panicky. On the other hand, police conducted a combing operation in Valmiki Nagar area to search of suspects.

Panchavati police registered an offence against Avinash Kaulkar, Premchand Kaulkar, Rohit Kadale, Hrishikesh Garad, Kiran Gotu Gosavi and others.

The gang of these accused went on rampage around 11 pm on Monday over a previous rivalry with resident of the area Vinayak Deepak Late alias Zagdya. They had also ransacked 10-12 vehicles. The accused also entered residence of Zagdya and ransacked the goods in the residence and fled from the spot.

The enraged citizens of the area had staged sit-in agitation and demanded to take a strict action against the accused. The police has undertaken a drive to search for suspects. They took 4-5 suspects into their custody for interrogation.

DCP Laxmikant Patil, ACP Vijaykumar Chavan, police inspector Sunilkumar Pujari, Subhashchandra Deshmukh, Ananda Wagh, PSI Shailendra Mhatre, other police personnel and squad of reserve police force conducted the combing operation in Walmik Nagar area to search for criminals. They inspected some residences. Police personnel have deployed in Patharvat Lane area. Panchavati police are investigating further into the case.
