One shot for refusing to pay extortion money


Panchavati : One person, doing business at Nashik Agriculture Produce Market Committee was shot at in the afternoon yesterday after he refused to give extortionmoney. He was seriously injured in it. Name of the suspect involved in a murder at Nashik Road one month back is resurfacing in this case.

The name of the injured person is Sandip Ashok Lad (resident of Bharadwadi, Phulenagar, Panchavati). Panchavati police were registering a case in connection with this after a complaint by Suraj Ramesh Bodke. Injured Sandip Lad does the work of loading pomegranates into vehicles at Sharadchandra Pawar market committee. Hardened criminal Shekhar Nikam had come to Sandip Lad some days before Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar jayanti and demanded Rs. 10,000 from him. Sandip had told him that he would give the money after two days.

Shekhar Nikam had come to him again after 15 days and demanded Rs. 5,000. Lad had again said that he would give the money after two days. Nikam had come to Sandip after two days and demanded the money and Sandip gave him Rs. 5,000.

Yesterday, injured Sandip Lad, Tatya Pingale and Lakhan Rathad went to a tea stall near Dr. Bachhav’s hospital on Peth Road around 3 pm. While they were coming out of the hotel after having tea, suspect Shekhar Nikam and his brother Ketan Nikam (resident of Khanderao temple, Peth Road) arrived there and abused Lad verbally for not giving Rs. 10,000. At that time, Ketan Nikam took out a country made revolver and fired a shot at Sandip. The bullet hit Sandip on the right of his chest.

Injured Sandip is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Following this incident, Panchavati police were registering a case against suspects Shekhar Nikam and Ketan Nikam. DCP Laxmikant Patil, ACP Vijaykumar Chavan, police inspector Dinesh Bardekar and other police personnel also reached the spot.
