Nashik : Bowing to the pressure from Opposition benches over alleged sub-standard works carried out before the onset of monsoon season, city mayor Ranjana Bhansi has assured that a committee would be constituted to probe the various pre-monsoon works.
Mayor Bhansi was interacting with the media-persons here on the backdrop of NMC’s stormy general body meeting (GBM) held on Monday, in which the opposition had levelled serious allegations in the completion of pre-monsoon works, forcing the mayor to wrap up the GBM.
“A committee will be constituted to probe pre-monsoon works undertaken by the civic authorities. After completion of probe, the guilty will not be spared and strict action will be taken against them,” assured mayor Bhansi.
The mayor further warned that if necessary, officials from outside will be hired to complete pending pre-monsoon works. She disclosed that a resolution on this has already been passed.
The opposition parties are demanding thorough probe into various aspects of the pre-monsoon works including issuance of tender, work orders, work completion, functioning of the underground drainage system etc as several parts of the city including Saraf Bazar had on June 14 witnessed severe waterlogging due to heavy showers measuring a rainfall of 92 mm.
The June-14 rainfall, as alleged by the opposition, has exposed NMC on its claims to have completed pre-monsoon works effectively. NMC house leader Dinkar Patil and city engineer U B Pawar had too made a futile attempt to answer back satisfactorily to the queries raised by the opposition over non-completion of pre-monsoon works and its merit.
