Currently, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation is running the city bus service, but considering loss, it warned to stop the service. Rounds on many routes were stopped in last few months. MSRTC issued an ultimatum to stop the service completely by April. On the backdrop of this, NMC has started to take steps to run the bus service.

A technical bidding process was conducted regarding appointment of agency. A period of three months will be given to advisory agency and next action will be taken after receiving the report from it. City bus service should be run by Municipal Corporation, but it is not mandatory. Advisory agency has been appointed to suggest the way the city bus should be run by the Municipal Corporation, informed NMC administration. Accordingly, Crisil will conduct survey of the city bus service and will check its practicality.
