Nashik: A 1-km Olympic Day Run was organised by Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj (MVPS) to mark the Olympic Day celebrations. On the occasion, image of father of the modern Olympics Pierre de Coubertin was worshipped at the hands of mayor Ranjana Bhansi, Arjuna Award winner Kavita Raut and CP Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal.
An Olympic flag was also hoisted by the present dignitaries. MVPS general secretary Neelima Pawar, MLC Jayant Jadhav, former mayor Ashok Murtadak, NMC opposition leader Ajay Boraste, district sports officer Ravindra Naik, Ashok Dudhare, Sahebrao Patil, Dr Sunil Dhikale and Dr Ashok Pingale were present.
The Olympic Day Run began with the hoisting of flag by players Sagar Gadhave, Nikita Sambherao, Payal Palaskar, Harshal Shardul, Gaurav Lambe, Prajakta Bodke, Snehal Vidhate, Sharayu Patil and Anjali Murtadak.
On the occasion, a slogan writing competition was organised in which students Om Lavande grabbed first position followed by Ruchita Ahirrao (2nd) and Harsh Gunjal emerged third.
In another event, a sports rally was organised jointly by Krida Sadhana Sanstha, Late K N D Mandal and the office of the sports officer, Nashik to mark the Olympic Day celebrations.
Initially, international marathon runner Kavita Raut lit the sports flame in key presence of dy director (sports) Ravindra Naik, Chhatrapati award winner Ashok Dudhare, Anand Khare, Avinash Tile, Nitin Hingmire, Raju Shinde, Kunal Ahire, Vikram Dudhare, Chinmay Deshpande and Makrand Sukhatme among a large number of sports personalities. The rally began from Kalaram temple to proceed via Panchavati Karanja, RK, Tilak road and MG Road before culminating at famous Yashwant Vyayamshala.
