NASHIK ROAD : Former speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Council Arun Gujarathi has pitched for conducting simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the state assemblies.
The former council speaker and senior NCP leader was addressing the meeting at Vasant Vyakhyanmala (lecture-series), organised by the Nashik Road-Deolali Vyapari Sahakari Bank at the NMC school No. 125 ground on Datta Mandir Road here.
“The frequency of elections and thereto a model code of conduct is hampering economic growth of the country considerably. Holding simultaneous elections to Parliament and state legislatures is the need of the hour,” Gujarathi said while speaking on the subject “Indian democracy and challenges youths face today”.
“Life is a challenge. We have to accept it irrespective of our position in the society. Indian democracy is the largest in the world. However, considering of voting percentage, it is a matter of great concern. We need to strengthen our democratic values for development,” the former speaker said. “No one is reliable in the politics,” he added.
