District admin averts confiscation of DC’s chair

Nashik: The Mumbai High Court had ordered additional compensation to be paid for the land acquired at Wavi in 2005 for old Mumbai-Nagpur highway. But when the beneficiaries still didn’t receive the additional compensation, it had ordered the chair and table of the District Collector to be confiscated.

The District Collector got a stay on the order and arranged a fund of Rs. 3 crore from the government. This money will now be deposited in the court and confiscation of the chair and table will be averted.

As per orders of the Mumbai High Court to pay additional compensation, Road Development Corporation had transferred a fund of Rs. 2.5 crore to Public Works Department in March, but it was disbursed to farmers in Igatpuri taluka in connection with land acquisition. As a result, original beneficiary from Wavi had not received the additional compensation.

Holding the district administration responsible for all these developments, the Nashik court had ordered the confiscation of the chair and table of the District Collector on Tuesday. District administration then presented its side in the court and got a stay on the order to avert the confiscation.

Sub-divisional officer Mahesh Patil took follow up in connection with this and Public Works Department will transfer this money at the government level to the District Collector. The district administration will deposit this money into the court now.
